Volleyball essentials: a volleyball, water bottle, and attire

Essential Beach Volleyball Equipment

Be sure to pack everything you need in advance – last-minute packing on tournament day almost always leads to forgetting something important! Here is our checklist of the tournament essentials:

  • Insulated Water Bottle One of the most important things for a beach volleyball tournament is to stay hydrated! We have water available at the facility to refill your bottle as much as you need.
  • Gym BagKeep all your belongings organized in one place.
  • Team Uniform or Comfortable Clothes If you’re playing with a team, be sure to coordinate your uniforms or team colors in advance. Most teams opt for comfortable, breathable, moisture-wicking gear like tank tops and shorts to help keep you cool and focused during the game.
  • Extra ClothesOnce you’ve finished playing for the day, you’ll want to get out of your sweaty and sandy tournament gear and into some fresh clothes!
  • Flip-Flops or SandalsChoose footwear that’s easy to slip on and off, allowing you to comfortably move around the venue when you’re not on the court.
  • TowelsBring a beach towel to wipe off sweat and sand.
  • Sand SocksSome players choose to wear sand socks instead of going barefoot, as they offer improved traction and extra comfort while playing on the sand.
  • Athletic TapeIf you rely on athletic tape, don’t forget to pack it – it’s essential for preventing new injuries and providing extra support to any existing ones.
  • Knee PadsIf you prefer to play in pads, make sure to pack them in your gym bag!
  • Phone ChargerEveryone always forgets this one! If you have a portable charger, bring it as a backup.
  • Hair Clips/TiesBeach volleyball is a lot more fun without hair in your face!
  • SnacksEnergy bars, fruit, and other light snacks help you stay fueled throughout the whole tournament.

Warming Up at the Tournament

Once game day finally arrives, make sure you’re mentally and physically prepared!

Take a moment before the tournament to make a plan with your teammates and go through any of your normal pregame routines. Getting in the right headspace can improve the way you play throughout the day.

Physical preparation is key, too. To be game-day ready, make sure to stay hydrated, eat a nutritious breakfast, and take time to stretch and warm up to prevent injuries. Remember: friends don’t let friends skip warm-up!
