How Playing Sand Volleyball Can Keep You in Good Shape

Many adults strain to get their daily exercise. Our jobs keep us sitting for much of the day, and we find ourselves struggling to fit in everything else we would like to do. Since working out isn’t necessarily fun, it often gets pushed aside.

The problem with that, however, is that we need exercise to keep us both mentally and physically healthy. Exercise is not something that we should put off.

According to the American Heart Association, the average adult should get about 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week to stay healthy. That can be broken down into three 50-minute sessions, or five 30-minute sessions to make it more attainable.

The good news is that exercise doesn’t have to be a chore. You can actually make it fun! Did you know that sand volleyball provides great aerobic exercise? Playing volleyball at Volleyball Beach in Ozark, Missouri, is a great way to stay in shape, meet with friends, and have fun!

Aerobic Benefits of Sand Volleyball

Aerobic exercise is anything that accelerates your heart rate and keeps it elevated for a period of time. Aerobic exercise is great for keeping your heart healthy, and it can also help you burn excess fat and calories.

Whether you are playing on teams of 2s, 4s, or 6s, sand volleyball offers a great aerobic workout because it requires constant movement from all players. Even for beginners, the game is intense and there is definitely no time for standing around. Moving across the sand is more difficult than moving across a gym floor, and your body has to work harder to keep yourself balanced.

A typical 30-minute game will provide 30 minutes of aerobic workout, which is a great way to try and reach the recommended 150 weekly minutes of exercise.

Sand Volleyball Builds Strength and Muscle tone

It would be impossible to run across the sand without building up some strong leg and core muscles. The ducking, lunging, diving, and jumping required in the game are great for building up leg  and arm strength. Stabilizing yourself on shifting sand is also a great way to utilize and strengthen your core muscles.

Even practice drills for sand volleyball, where you work on things like passing, jumping, and hitting, will help you build up those muscles necessary for playing the game.
